"Elsa came to us on 11/24/2020 due to her owner passing away. She was brought in by the owner's brother, but had been passed around to many families over the last year. If 2020 sucked for anyone- it was definitely Elsa. She was itchy, scabby, and her fur was missing in a lot of places.
I came in to work on Thanksgiving morning and saw her. She was at the front of the kennel whining, and she would walk around and bump into her kennel walls. I was then informed that she was blind. I took time to sit with her, and my heart melted immediately. I called my fiancé and told him that I was bringing her home, no matter what he had to say about it. She instantly snuggled up and fell asleep when I put her in bed with him. After that, it was off to thanksgiving with my in-laws. Elsa came along with us and enjoyed some turkey and cheese. I was only supposed to have her for a night- just to get her out of here for the holiday. I ended up fostering her for a couple of months.
This was the first senior dog I had fostered, and she was blind so I wasn't sure what to expect, but she taught me that regardless of all the obstacles you face, you can still come out on the other side even better, and that's exactly what happened with her. Within that couple of months, I had worked to get her hair back and just love her as much as possible. She was finally medically cleared and posted for adoption.
I was lucky enough to have the ability to be a little picky with the applicants, and I wanted to make sure that she had the best home possible- that's when our shelter manager forwarded Tami's email about her being interested, I knew it was meant to be. It was perfect. I work at AP so I could check up on her occasionally, and I know for certain that she is in the best hands possible! Stories like hers are what drives me to come in every day and be a voice for the voiceless. I am so grateful to be an AP employee, and I am even more grateful for the amazing adopters that open their homes to the animals that need it most."

"When I saw Elsa's photos pop up on Facebook, I fell in love. I contacted the shelter to meet her right away. I signed on to foster her in Mid-January, to see how my 2 dogs and 2 cats got along with her. Everything went well and I returned to make it official at the beginning of February. I am amazed at how well she gets around not being able to see. It is funny, she knows when I am putting her harness on her she gets all excited, that we are going for a ride to the cabin.  She loves to cuddle, but she is very spunky as well. She is a sweetheart. I absolutely love her and cannot imagine our lives without her."
