She was brought in by the owner's brother, but had been passed around to many families over the last year. If 2020 sucked for anyone- it was definitely Elsa. She was itchy, scabby, and her fur was missing in a lot of places.
I came in to work on Thanksgiving morning and saw her. She was at the front of the kennel whining, and she would walk around and bump into her kennel walls. I was then informed that she was blind. I took time to sit with her, and my heart melted immediately. I called my fiancé and told him that I was bringing her home, no matter what he had to say about it. She instantly snuggled up and fell asleep when I put her in bed with him. After that, it was off to thanksgiving with my in-laws. Elsa came along with us and enjoyed some turkey and cheese. I was only supposed to have her for a night- just to get her out of here for the holiday. I ended up fostering her for a couple of months.
This was the first senior dog I had fostered, and she was blind so I wasn't sure what to expect, but she taught me that regardless of all the obstacles you face, you can still come out on the other side even better, and that's exactly what happened with her. Within that couple of months, I had worked to get her hair back and just love her as much as possible. She was finally medically cleared and posted for adoption.
I was lucky enough to have the ability to be a little picky with the applicants, and I wanted to make sure that she had the best home possible- that's when our shelter manager forwarded Tami's email about her being interested, I knew it was meant to be. It was perfect. I work at AP so I could check up on her occasionally, and I know for certain that she is in the best hands possible! Stories like hers are what drives me to come in every day and be a voice for the voiceless. I am so grateful to be an AP employee, and I am even more grateful for the amazing adopters that open their homes to the animals that need it most."

– MaryAnn Gasper
APAV Kennel Assistant

"When I saw Elsa's photos pop up on Facebook, I fell in love. As you had told us, the family who had previously adopted Hooch sadly needed to return him since he was humping the family’s young son. Well, naturally the first 30 minutes in our household with me and Veronica, he tried the same (likely from excitement and anxiety). A few harsh “NO” and pushing him off that first day, and that was that. No more humping!!

He had his first visit with the vet at the end of July and came out with a clean bill of health with the exception of fleas and and ear infection. Some antibiotic ear ointment and a flea collar cleared those 2 issues up in no time! Veronica and I changed his call name to Bruce (sounds much like Hooch) and he answers to the name Bruce. All the neighbors say hello to Bruce during our morning and evening walks and our USPostal woman has bonded with Bruce so he looks forward to her arrival everyday.

Bruce had a one on one training session so he could learn to walk a bit better without tugging/pulling. Spectacular! What an A+ student he is. A harness and a whistle have done wonders to keep him on task with walking gently, yet I must admit that seeing a squirrel still provides Bruce with outstanding focus and desire to run the critter down (or up the tree trunk as will be the case sometimes). We continue working on that squirrel sensation, but it will be a long term thing. I mean, what dog can resist running down a squirrel - right?

So, thanks again. We are settled into our routine and Bruce loves his hugs, cuddles and naps. We are grateful for him being part of our family."

Ladybug – ALUMNI UPDATE!!!

https://www.animalprotectors.net/apavs-cats--dogs-blog/ladybug-alumni-update

https://www.animalprotectors.net/apavs-cats--dogs-blog/ladybug-alumni-update#comments

Uncategorized

"Now Lady, who first 4 years was pretty much around women has fallen in love with my husband.
