COVID-19 UPDATES

As we continue to gather new and developing information regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, animal protectors of allegheny valley wants to remind visitors to our shelter about health and safety and social distancing practices for your safety and the safety of our staff and volunteers.
If you are feeling ill, experiencing symptoms or have recently traveled to an area where the virus is spreading, we ask that you please refrain from visiting our shelter to minimize contact with our staff, volunteers and visitors.
thank you

Please Note the Following Changes in APAV’s Protocols and Operations

The threat of COVID-19 has generated understandable concerns in our community. The health, safety, and well-being of the Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley clients, donors, community partners, staff, volunteers – and all of the animals in our care – is our top priority.
Effective Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 APAV’s Shelter will operate by appointment-only. The public will not be permitted in the shelter or lobby waiting areas without an appointment.
If you are interested in adopting an animal that you saw on APAV’s website or social media, please call 724-339-7388. If there is no answer please leave a message.  Our staff will be happy to make an appointment to conduct an adoption interview with you via the phone and arrange a meeting, if both parties think it’s a good match.
As the situation evolves, we will be phasing in additional measures to protect our clients and animal caregivers, so please continue to check this page for the most current APAV updates.

Advanced Cleaning and Hygiene Protocol

Using the protocols we already have in place for animals, APAV has increased cleaning and disinfecting areas of our buildings visited by the public, in compliance with CDC and WHO guidelines. Staff and volunteers are being asked to practice good personal health hygiene and are being provided with hand sanitizers and cleaning supplies.

Animal Surrender

Surrenders will be restricted to emergencies only – if we have room, beginning March 17, 2020.

Going Virtual and Social Distancing

Critical operations staff, including Animal Care and Veterinary teams, will continue to provide essential care, medical attention, and behavior/enrichment for the animals in our shelter. Volunteers will be reduced to continue critical animal care operations only.

Supporting APAV

We are working hard to continue to help animals in a way that is enables us to keep our clients, donors, community partners, staff, and volunteers safe and healthy. This is new territory, and we understand that it is difficult to predict long-term impacts in the current climate, but one thing remains constant – animals are still in need.

Your support is more important than ever.  Your gift today will ensure that we are able to adapt as needed to provide all the animals in our care with the level of compassion and love they deserve, as well as respond to animal emergencies in our community.
