SNOOPY UPDATE!

"If you remember Snoopy – he was very shy and timid, but he fits right in to this family!

He loves his morning walk. He knows as soon as his Dad gets up in the morning, it’s walk time! He loves to play with his brother Jules. When it’s 5:00 o’clock he knows that Mommy and Daddy are home from work. At night time he loves to sleep with his sister. He knows how to sit and he loves his stuffed coffee cup!

Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Snoopy and we look forward to sharing updates with you along the way!" – The Broderick Family

Maggie Update!

"I just wanted to send a quick update on Maggie :)  I worked at Animal Protectors for about 5 years and a while working there in 2014 Maggie was an owner surrender along with her brother Hardy (who was later adopted by a family friend of mine). She didn't like the shelter environment and we thought it was best for her to be fostered.  We thought she was around 7-8 yrs old. I brought her home with me to initially foster but ended up being a "foster failure" and adopted her. She has come so far in the 6 years I have had her. She still zips around like a puppy sometimes and is my yippee little sidekick. She is starting to show her age but still has some good years left. Attached are some pictures over the years including when she was at the shelter and one of a play date with her brother.
Thanks,
Rachel Brown"

"We have had Rascal since February as a foster in the plans to adopt him! He is a great dane/boxer mix. Then came the corona virus in March which pushed the adoption process back up until finally on May 29th we officially made him ours!❤️ He was extremely shy with us at first as he came from a hoarding home, but with much love and trust he has become the best snuggler and our other dog Ella’s best friend!  He is a wonderful dog, who I am extremely grateful we gave him the chance to be! He has already learned how to give paw, speak and even stay and play in our yard! We just love him and glad we found him through Animal Protectors! Everyone here is so nice and I hope to keep in touch with the volunteers and staff!
Thank you again for allowing our family to love him forever️!!!!"

Patches Update!!!

"Hi! My name is Poppy and I adopted a pit mix named Patches back in September of 2019.
Patches is now Ziggy and he is truly the light of my life! From the moment I brought him home I just knew we were a match. He is so sweet and silly and has such a personality, he really came out of his shell within the first 3 months. He loves his toys, playing ball, chewing on his bones, and he’s a champion at sleeping!

We are still dealing with his skin issues which appear to be environmental allergies, but he’s doing so much better! I am such a proud dog mom to see how far he’s come in just under a year. He is so special to me and I love him with all of my heart.

Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers at your facility for helping him and getting him healthy enough to be adopted. You are the hero’s to these animals. I can’t imagine my life without him in it. So thank you!!!" ️

Update on Mama Nala!

Thank you everyone that has shared a thought or prayer for our recently admitted mama dog, Nala! Our veterinarian gave her a physical exam this morning and determined that it is likely that she gave birth several weeks ago--much longer than our initial estimate of only a few days. We were very happy to hear that any puppies she had are older than first thought. After caring for her for a few days, we are so happy that she is in our care. She is very sweet and loves to play! She is getting along with some of our other residents, and generally appears healthy and happy. Nala's story is a great example of the work that we do every day.

When strays, like Nala, are brought to us our first task is to scan for a microchip. Microchipping is the best way to be reunited with your pet should they ever get away from you. Since Nala didn't have one, we then reached out to the community for information, and you all shared her story over 1600 times! Social media is an incredible tool for reuniting strays. Sadly, no one has stepped forward to claim her. In Pennsylvania, owners have 48 hours to try and reclaim a dog that was picked up as a stray. Should your pet ever get loose, use that time to contact local shelters, animal control, vet clinics, and police stations. These are all common places for stray dogs to be taken if picked up by a good samaritan. During the stray-waiting period, we provide daily medical and behavioral care to our residents doing everything we can to keep them happy and safe, including vaccinating against common diseases and treating for any potential parasites like fleas, ticks, and worms. If the animal has not been reclaimed at the end of 48 hours, they will be made available for adoption and spayed or neutered before they go to their new home.

As you can see, a lot of work goes into each and every animal that comes through our doors! Maintaining this quality of care takes resources, though. We can only continue this lifesaving work with community support from animal lovers like yourself. If you can, please consider donating to help us continue to find safe, loving homes for abused, abandoned, and homeless animals in the Allegheny-Kiski Valley.
