Bear

Bear was adopted by one of our volunteers who reports that he is doing very well! Bear came to AP as an older gentleman, mostly deaf, partially blind, and with a matted coat - just the right (or wrong?!)formula for a broken heart. We quickly groomed his coat and showed him a lot of love and his spirits lifted. And then volunteer David saw him:

"He broke my heart. I walked him a few times and I just had to take him. He still stumbles around a bit, but is pretty used to our setup for him. The other day I saw him run and wag his tail for the first time! He also eats fairly well and is so very gentle and lovable."

We are happy to hear that good ol' Bear is enjoying his forever home! Old dogs rule!

O'Neill

Hi, it's O'Neill, long time no see!

I just wanted to say hello and thanks to all my friends at Animal Protectors. I really appreciate all the help and love you gave to me and your desire to find me a home like the one I have today.

If I remember correctly, I arrived at Animal Protectors about one year ago and spent a few months in your care before I was adopted by Tom and Mira in October. I really appreciate all the help.

You'll be happy to know that I'm very comfortable at my new home with a lot of room to run and play. My family keeps telling me that I am a very "good boy." Even my older sister Leza, she's a 16 year old Eskimo Spitz, likes me for the company. Actually, I think she likes me because, if I'm a good boy, we both get a treat.

Since my adoption, I've grown a little and have learned alot. You know me, I'll do anything for a treat. ;)

Well, I better go, I hear them calling me. It might be time for my walk or to play "go fetch." Dad says I spend too much time on the computer anyway....just kidding.

Gotta go. Bye,
O'Neill

Marley, The Beautiful Black Cat

I just received the summer newsletter and came across the article "The Beauty of the Black Cat" and I completely agree with everything! I just adopted my black cat Marley from the shelter in February of this year.

I decided to come to the shelter when my older cat passed away and I needed a companion at home when I moved out from my parent's house. When I walked into the cat room at the shelter I spotted Marley. She was the sweetest cat ever! I picked her up and she felt so comfortable in my arms right away.

Since she's been home, she has not left my side. She follows me up and down the stairs, into every room and sleeps with me at night. She always seems to know when I am upset when she comes to my side right away and curls up in my lap. Every day is great with her. She makes me giggle with the silly things she does like chatting with the birds outside the window or her uncoordinated legs when she zooms from room to room.

Black cats are really great and they shouldn't be thought of as "cursed" or "bad luck." They are great pets and an even better lifetime friend.

Thank you for my new family member!

Benny the Wedding Dog

On October 19, 1996 I adopted Benny (formerly known as Nick). I attached a current picture. It was my wedding day, but I just could not let him stay in the shelter one more day. Yes I was late to my own wedding. Benny turned out to be the best companion anyone could ask for. I was told he was found on the side of the road, and no one had claimed him. Lucky for me! He has been very devoted to his family of mom, dad, two human brothers and two canine brothers. Family members nick named him the wedding dog.

Unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago, his spleen had to be removed and he is undergoing chemo treatments . But, I am very excited to be celebrating 13 years with him. I cherish every day I have with him and all the wonderful memories he has given me.

Thank you Animal Protectors for my guardian angel Benny.

Benny lost his battle with cancer on October 20th, 2009.

Chico

We adopted Chico (formerly Brody) in April 2008. We were told that he was roaming at large and had been at the shelter for a little while with no takers. The only explanation would be that he was waiting for us. He's been such a joy and so much fun. We lost our 14 year old dog, Stormy, who was also adopted from Animal Protectors in 2006 and decided to see if we were ready for another dog. Well ... Chico has been a perfect fit. He loves to play, give kisses, chase bunnies and sleep under the covers. He's always happy and he's made our house a home again. We couldn't love him anymore and I think the feeling is mutual. Thank you for bringing him into our lives.

Earl

Dear Animal Protectors:
Enclosed please find a photo of Earl, a 9 year old Beagle, who we adopted in September 2007 from Animal Protectors. In November 2008 Bella, a 2 year old female Beagle came into our lives via a neighbor's co-worker who wanted to get rid of her. Earl and Bella have become great friends and both are doing great and are healthy. The work that your organization does is a great service to the community and our experience with the organization was excellent.

Good luck and thanks again.

Phelon

Just to let you guys know that Phelon is doing very well. I adopted him about three and half years ago, and he is the best dog I have ever owned. He does great with my kids, even with the newborn he is very gentle.

Colby

We adopted Carson (now Colby) about a year and a half ago. He is such a sweet boy. He loves attention but is so mellow; he is content to just curl up beside us and be pet. Unfortunately, we found out shortly after adopting Colby that he suffers from seizures, but we now have his condition under control through medication and we don't regret adopting him at all. In fact, we can't imagine life without him. I would only get a dog through adoption and I recommend it to my friends as well. I don't know how anyone could have given Colby up, but I'm glad we got to take him home.

Kimora

Here are some updated pictures of "Serene" (now Kimora) She has been such a good baby since we adopted her, she loves to cuddle every night! Everyone that meets her tells us she not your typical pit bull and has changed their minds about pit bulls! She loves to play with other dogs, she even went on a road trip to Atlanta and played with 3 other pit bulls! I will have to send pictures of all 4 of them together. She loves to go to the dog park and even gets in the water! I absolutely love her personality and couldn't image life without her :)

Sheba

We adopted Sheba back 11 yrs. Ago, this past September. She was about 6 mos. Old and hands down the best dog anyone could ask for. She's our 3rd child and truly the most loving dog ever. When we adopted her, she was already house broken and knew the basics of being a very well behaved dog...for this we were beyond fortunate.

I've heard it said that when you adopt, that animal will reward you with love forever...well, this is so very true. She's the QUEEN in our house. Our son has Cerebral Palsy and the two of them have been the best of buddies from day one. Over the years she may have slowed down some (not much!) but she has been a constant force in our daily lives.

We are so thankful for the ability to adopt. Thank you for being such a wonderful place for these animals until they find their homes.

Amarra

When I asked about Amarra at shelter her foster mom told me she had been found one morning out side of Animal protectors in the pouring rain, very pregnant.

Three days later she had her pups.

After she waited 8 months for someone to adopt her, I took her home.

One month later I was diagnosed with cancer.

During my treatment over the next year we were inseparable, she cuddled and nursed me through some very tough times.

In the six and a half years since I adopted her she has earned her CGC, and passed her TDI test to become a therapy dog. She loves visiting nursing homes but her favorite is going to libraries where she snuggles with kids as they read to her.

She spends her summers hiking in the woods around Hartwood Acres, chasing Chipmunks and her winters sunning in Florida, chasing lizards.

I've started calling her Paris Hilton because; she's spoiled rotten, is shameless when trying to get attention, will kiss anyone, loves to shop, and thinks everyone in the world is here just to fawn over her.

Twice a week she goes to work with my husband and is the official greeter at his store. She entices everyone for belly rubs by rolling on her back, wiggling back and forth at their feet.

Last fall we stopped by Animal Protectors and we saw her foster mom. Amarra immediately remembered her.

We both will always be thankful for all you have done for us.

Nico

This is Nico, (used to be Sunny) a scrawny, not-very-pretty kitten with huge ears and a loud mouth! However, he stole our hearts and is now a beautiful, loving two year old with attitude, affection and SO much personality. He rules the house, and we let him! Thank you for giving us such a wonderful addition to our family.

Salem and his pal Mickey

My name is Christina Strellec, and I am writing to send you a picture of my cat Salem...We've had him for almost a year now, and I can't thank you enough for him! At the shelter, his name was Magoo, I think. This is a picture of him playing with our dog Mickey...the two of them have turned out to be the best of friends!!! Thanks again!

Sincerely, Christina Strellec

Garland - Now Good Golly Miss Molly!

Here are 2 pictures of our new beauty.......We renamed her 'Good Golly Miss Molly' or G.G. for short............We cannot believe our luck with this cat; she is very well behaved, loves to be brushed and combed, doted over and pampered. She even rubs against our 9 month old granddaughter while she was fussing and doesn't mind her ears tugged on. We picked her up from the shelter ( 60 miles one way ) after seeing her on PetFinder.com on Saturday the 5th and by Sunday evening she had taken over one arm of the sofa and the end table nearest it. We believe that she is convinced she is a queen and we are convinced we will treat her as such. Thanks to everyone at the shelter for taking good care of her and for being helpful and kind to us.

Beautiful Bridget!

Bridget was a dog that did not "show well" while at the shelter. Taking a chance and adopting a "pit bull" is something I am really glad that we did. Bridget is our first dog and we made a perfect choice. Bridget is loyal and anxious to please. She knows a ton of tricks, walks well, loves the water, gets along with our fourteen-year old cat, and sleeps with us every night. Going in the car for ice cream is one of her favorite things to do. Bridget appreciates everything and loves life.... and, we love her...
