Adoption Policy

Animal Protectors has a strong commitment to our animals and we strive to adopt them into loving homes. All applications are given careful consideration by the adoption committee and must meet the requirements listed below. Desired animals are put on hold for the applicant until the application is processed with a final decision affirmed. Multiple applications can be taken on one animal.

Adoption requirements include:

  • A completed Animal Protectors adoption application accompanied by a photo ID.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age and older.
  • All applicants will be interviewed by an adoption counselor.
  • All applicants must agree that the animal they wish to adopt will not be housed outdoors.
  • Renters must bring a copy of their lease.
  • If living rent-free with a relative, said relative must give permission for the adoption.
  • Adoptions, specifically dog adoptions, will require a property check and/or a home visit.
  • A vet check on the current pet/s that show current pet/s are altered and up-to-date with immunizations.
  • On-site meet n’ greet with the prospective adopters current dog if adopting a shelter dog.
  • Ability to provide a stable environment; proper veterinary care and meet the basic needs including food, exercise and companionship.
  • Payment in full at the time of adoption by cash, debit card or credit card. Checks are not accepted.
  • Agreement from the adopter to contact Animal Protectors to make arrangements for the return of the animal if the adoption is not successful.
Animal Protectors prefers to adopt animals to individuals and families within a 90 mile radius of the shelter. Each application will be considered on a case by case basis. Approved long distance applicants are responsible for all expenses including, but not limited to, adoption fee, travel kennels, gas, airline tickets and travel companion. All arrangements must be made and paid for in advance of the release of the animal. Adopters are responsible for acquiring the proper licensing for their new pet according to the laws in their place of residence.

Animal Protectors reserves the right to refuse any application.
